Soap & Water
Step 1 – Prepare
Slip on your favorite pair of comfy latex gloves and use a garden hose to fill a bucket with a water hose. Add 1 or 2 tablespoons of dish soap, according to the soap concentration and the size of your bucket. Make sure the water becomes foamy. If you have any plants near your playground equipment, please use only natural, non-toxic and biodegradable dish soap. These phosphate- and petroleum-free cleaners are usually made from plant essential oils and botanical extracts.
Step 2 – Scrub
Some people believe in using a wire bristle brush to clean backyard playsets thinking that it would be the most effective tool to clean the dirt. Please do not make this mistake, Using a wire bristle brush to clean a playset will damage the wood by causing splinters and increase the risk of rot. Basically, it speeds up the decay process by removing the woods first line of defense. For the best results, use a brush with soft bristles. Other than that, all that you need is dish soap and warm water. Firmly, scrub the entire playset with a circular motion. As you scrub, you will likely remove mold and bird droppings in addition to the dirt. When you finish, rinse out the brush thoroughly. Scrub your playset from top to bottom, from left to right so you do not miss any spots. This pattern will make sure that dirty water will not flow down over areas you have already cleaned. This systematic way of cleaning will ensure that you clean your entire playset without missing any spots.
Step 3 – Rinse
Then rinse the entire playset with clean water from the hose in the same order that you scrubbed it. (top to bottom – left to right) Then let it air dry completely for roughly a day. Try not to let your kids play on it right away even though I’m sure it will be challenging. Some playsets will become dangerously slippery due to the leftover water.
Step 5 – Repeat Every Year For The Best Results
We recommend that you thoroughly clean your backyard playset at least once every year.
